Car Speakers are but one important component of the car audio system, which refers more broadly to the field of mobile entertainment and is becoming a sport at large. More appropriately, car speakers are crucial factors if one needs the high of a good sound system in his automobile.
At first, speakers from the home audio were simply installed into vehicles, but they were not well suited to the extremes of temperature and vibration which are a normal part of the environment of an automobile. Also, before stereo radio was introduced, the most common speaker location was in the middle of the dashboard pointing through perforations towards the front windshield. In modern cars, speakers are generally located in doors and rear parcel shelves of sedan.
Today, advances in acoustic technology mean that even two 10s (inches) in a well designed efficient enclosure can produce more than 160 decibels SPL (sound pressure level) within the cabin.
High-end audio systems include Component Speakers available in two speaker and three speaker combinations, and consist of a matched tweeter, midrange and woofer set. It may also include a cross-over which limits the frequency range that each component speaker must handle.
In addition a subwoofer(s) is provided for low frequency music information and to achieve that louder is better effect; equalizers were added to constitute or induce equality, equilibrium, or balance between speakers.
Amplifiers provide the necessary music power, measured in watts to drive the speakers. High Power amplifiers require large gauge cable to provide adequate voltage and current to the amplifier.
For maximization, there are speaker accessories available such as fFoam baffles to protect speakers from dust and moisture; a bass blockers to improve smaller speakers' efficiency by removing low frequencies they weren't designed to handle; a ‘dynamat' lowers noise levels inside the vehicle giving improved clarity, volume, and bass response from speakers.
